Last Friday night the Sexton's came over and their kids brought the movie Bolt to watch. Great right? Wrong. All seemed just fine the next morning when Claire told me she thought about "the movie I watched with the Sextons" as she went to bed. Oh, how cute. Then Sunday as I was brushing her hair I asked her what she dreamed about the night before (a common conversation we have over hair brushing) and the answer is usually "princesses" but that day it was "the movie I watched with the Sextons". Wow, she really likes that movie Bolt. Maybe we should give it to her for her birthday. Then that night, I tuck her in and haven't made it down the stairs when I hear a cry from her room. I rush in prepared to see a bloody nose. But instead, I see a very scared Claire. I ask what is wrong and she finally gets out "I don't want to be alone". What? She has never said this before. Why Claire? "because I can't stop thinking about the movie I watched with the Sextons!" What? I thought you liked that movie. "I can't stop think about the bad guys!" Oh. Oops. Weird how she picked this movie's bad guys to be scared of. And didn't think to tell me in previous conversations. So I held her as she cried and thought what to do. And it came to me-Jared. Her brother/dad/protector/knight in shinning armor/number one fan. You should have seen his face when I brought her in and asked if she could sleep with him because she was scared of a movie. I will blog on this relationship another time. It's so sweet it needs it own post. Last night we tried to have her sleep on her own and told her to think of happy things when the bad guys came into her head. Like princesses and unicorns she said. Yes. A minute after I left I ran back into her room with her crying and asked why she didn't think of something happy. Through her tears she said she tried to think about the Cruzes, but still thought of the bad guys from "the movie I saw with the Sextons" (ok, the movie is called Bolt Claire). The Cruzes should feel honored that they are up there with princesses and unicorns. Unfortunately the Sextons have probably fallen down the list since bringing that horrible movie into our house. Claire enjoyed another night in Jared's room. Carter demanded that tonight she sleep in his room. Oh boy.

this is so sweet and sad. poor girl. i don't remember that movie being scary, but then i watched it with nathan. it's funny the kids kids pick up on.
Send her on over, Julie. We will keep her safe. Or maybe we could just loan you some of our home movies, so she could start thinking about movies starring the Cruzes.
oh my goodness. i am still laughing. And grateful the Sextons didn't make us watch this scary movie yesterday. Poor Claire. at least she can depend on the Cruzes.
